Reading & Writing Programs

Bulldog Book Club

The Bulldog Book Club is open to all students at Still, and new members are welcomed at any time! Meetings are held for an hour after school in the LMC. Some of the club's past activities include putting on short scary plays, sharing favorite books, and coordinating a school book collection service project. Be a mover and shaker in the world of Pleasure Reading – turn in a permission slip to the LMC today!

Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award

The Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award is an Illinois award for outstanding literature for young people. It was developed to encourage children and young adults to read for personal satisfaction. Books are nominated by children, teachers and interested adults and from these nominations, a master list of 20 titles is created each year. Students in grades 4 through 8 who read at least three books on the list are eligible to vote for their favorite book in February.

Young Authors Program

The Young Authors Program encourages students to become involved in the authoring process, using their skills to create an original written work.  The work may be an essay, story, or poem, and the work may be one that was created for an assignment as long as it is an original work.

Students at Still may submit entries through their Language Arts class, and the top entries will be recognized at a breakfast in the Spring.  One student will be selected to represent Still at the state Young Authors Conference, which is held in May each year.

Questions about the Still Young Authors Program may be directed to the Mrs. Kaufman, LMC Director.
