6th Grade FACS

6th Grade FACS is a nine-week requisite course that provides the students the opportunity to explore three main areas: nutrition, basic cooking skills, and babysitting. Students examine food choices for a healthy lifestyle, prepare a variety of simple recipes, and learn strategies for becoming a successful babysitter. Kitchen safety, manners, and cooperation are also stressed!

7th Grade FACS

7TH Grade FACS is a nine-week requisite course, which allows students to demonstrate their creativity while learning basic sewing skills. We begin with replacing a button and simple hand sewing projects, then advance to machine seams and hems. Students chose and purchase their own fabric for their "final project" – construction of a drawstring tote bag. To close the quarter, we learn about laundry and clothing care. Emphasis is placed on following direction, problem solving, and peer helping. You can see the pride in their eyes as they complete each project!

8th Grade Foods

8th Grade Foods is also a semester elective course that offers students an opportunity to learn about food preparation techniques and storage methods, food service, and ethnic foods. As they explore individual foods more closely, they will develop a deeper understanding of the relationship between food and a deeper understanding of the relationship between food and a healthy body. Emphasis is on cooperative lab group work and proper procedures and techniques that are necessary for success and safety in the kitchen. Students can amaze and dazzle their family and friends with the variety of unusual healthy recipes prepared in this course!

8th Grade Sewing

8th Grade Sewing is a full semester elective course designed to build upon the sewing skills learned in 7th grade sewing. Students enrolled in this course will choose and purchase their own fabrics and materials to complete the following projects: character pillow, apron, and windsock. The conclusive project requires students to utilize a commercial pattern to construct their own flannel pajama pants. Most students are astounded by how quickly their skills improve and confidence grows. This unique opportunity allows students to create projects to enjoy and keep for years to come!

FACS Clubs
