Digital Media Production Class Open to Incoming Waubonsie Valley Freshmen

Reported by brian_wiencek@ipsd.org on 1/19/21

Incoming Waubonsie Valley High School freshmen (the Class of 2025) have the opportunity to learn about the world of digital media in Waubonsie Valley’s Media Communication and Production course. The year-long course teaches students video, audio, journalism, storytelling, social media and more.

Freshmen will learn aspects of storytelling, including filming, editing, writing, graphics, music and reporting. Students will also learn media literacy skills and how to be smarter about consuming broadcast, film and social media.

Students will use their skills to produce news and feature stories, music videos, podcasts, commercials and public service announcements.

It's a fun, hands-on course that encourages students to use their creativity and voice to tell the stories of Waubonsie Valley and Aurora/Naperville. Student work may be viewed by a worldwide authentic audience on several outlets, including Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.

Students will also have the chance to be involved in the school's weekly news video magazine, Warrior Update.

This course also provides students the opportunity to earn credit for college, including College of DuPage or one of their four-year partner schools.

Finally, enrollment in this course allows students to be a part of WVTV's award-winning sports broadcast production program, where students take on real-world roles of directing, producing and operating cameras for football and basketball live-streaming broadcasts.

Students who are interested can sign up for course number TEE 1014 on their course selection page online or ask your Waubonsie Valley High School guidance counselor to register you for Media Communication and Production.
